*** TAKING BAIT TO EUROPE ***
There seems to be many Chinese whispers in the Angling community of late regarding taking bait across the border. Being our business we have obviously taken this subject very seriously and wanted to share our findings and set the story straight for some...
The fact is we are no longer part of the EU, so do not have the luxury of moving goods so freely as before, both commerically and personally ...
From a bait manufacturers point of view we must now all comply with the following;
Be an approved Animal by-product operating plant, have regular inspections from Trading Standards and DEFRA, get our products regularly tested, store and display batch records and best-before-dates, list ingredients used and analysis on every package in multiple languages, as well as the normal 100 other things that goes in hand with running a company. Although it all sounds doom and gloom, we as a company are quite happy with these new rules as it means our industry is now regulated, meaning to manufacturer bait we will all be on the same playing field and will put an end to the cowboys...
But more concerning to Anglers is obviously the laws in taking bait for personal use to France etc. They are quite simple, any baits containing animal by-products (dairy, meat etc) are not allowed to be taken, any baits not containing animal by-products (particles) will be restricted to 2kg...
There seems to be many who think if they have the correct paperwork they will be allowed. This is not correct. The paperwork they are refuring to is an Export Health Certificate, we have been completing these for years for our export outside of the EU. They have to be signed off by an APHA approved Vet who will inspect the bait factory to make sure they are manufacturing to strict criteria. They are both expensive and time consuming and cannot be done for an individual...
So it's all come to an end...? Not at all!! We can still travel and enjoy the incredible venues that Europe has to offer but now you simply have to get your bait at the venue...
We've known these changes were coming for many years so we've made sure we're up to scratch and ready for it. We've invested AGAIN in a new factory, everything shiny new stainless steel and nothing for our new inspector friends to pick up on. We're registered and have all the necessary approvals. We've made sure our packaging fully complies in every EU country. And lastly to guarantee our products do not skyrocket in price (due to the new import 'taxes') we have set up a European Distribution Center in Germany. This means venues can still receive our products at with no additional paperwork and at no extra cost...
We appreciate that we do not stock every lake in Europe but if your yearly trip to the continent is one that choses to stock our products you'll be pleased to know that we've made sure your bait will be exactly the same price it always has been...
Please if you have any questions at all, you are always welcome to contact us direct and we will be more than happy to help in any way we can... 😀🐟
